🧬 Team

We added three new team members in April, bringing us to 24 team members in total – (21 full-time employees, and 3 contractors). All have immersed themselves seamlessly into our remote-first culture, and shipped work quickly that has added value to our team.

Justin Stanley, Software Engineer

I'm a Canadian software engineer who specializes in mobile development and loves to be involved with design and product. Originally, I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and was working in marketing jobs for 10 years—until I discovered software development as a passion. For the past 5 years, I'd been working at SkipTheDishes, Canada's leading food delivery service, and was originally part of its early startup team where we rewrote the 3 mobile apps 6 times over in the first 2 years. Before Skip, I created my own app, BB Links, which thousands of Beachbody Coaches use to run their businesses efficiently.

I was introduced to Levels by Ben Grynol (we worked together at Skip), and when I looked into the mission, product, company, and team, I knew it was special. The product itself aligned precisely with my own past (and present) struggles with figuring out how foods affect me, and I knew I needed to be a part of the journey with this team. I've been using Levels for about 6 weeks now and have already learned so much!

Personally, I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba with my husband (Shawn), our senior dog (Rocco), and cat (Edward Scissor Paws). I've always struggled with my weight my whole life. I discovered the book Wheat Belly, which kickstarted my journey to low carb eating and avoiding wheat. All of the other issues I had (brain fog, bad memory, zero energy, inflamed joints, acne, bowel issues) went away. In combination with Beachbody at-home workouts like P90X, I lost 70 lbs overall! I'm pretty nerdy, love Apple, really love making people laugh, and enjoy helping others learn and become better versions of themselves

Alan McLean, Lead Designer

As someone with Type 1 Diabetes and Epilepsy, wellbeing has always been top of mind. I feel privileged to have committed much of my career to creating experiences that feel personal, inspire action and help people live their best lives.

My career started at the New York Times where I worked as Graphics Editor reporting and telling stories visually. In the newsroom I covered Presidential elections, the Olympics and enterprise stories such as Snowfall, a Pulitzer prize winner. I've also covered countless breaking news stories such as the death of Osama Bin Laden and the Boston Bombing leading to the Smithsonian awarding the Graphics Department a National Design Award.

I transitioned from editorial design to product at Strava as my interest in endurance sports grew. I joined Fitbit as a Design Lead prior to the IPO to craft wearable experiences and lead data visualization. This was thrilling and deepened my desire to scale my work to more people.

At Verily and Google, I've led teams on many flavors of wellbeing work: Using ML to detect undiagnosed depression; App experiences for clinical studies; Google wide design system guidance to reduce unintentional use and most recently sleep experiences for Nest.

I'm thrilled to be joining Levels to make something that helps people feel seen, supported and inspired in their health journey. This is my mission as a design leader.
